I have a 1996 stratos 201xl with a 225 evinrude motor. Which spark plugs should I be using?

steamking,
I am assuming you have a '96 Evinrude 225, in which case the BRP web-site recommends Champion QL82YC with QL77JC4 and QL16V listed as optional.

When did they change that ? At one time they said QL82YC was to hot.

Quite a lot depends on your set up and fuel quality. If your motor is set up to achieve close to 6000 rpm, you're using fresh 87 octane and quality oil you could opt for the hotter plug. We prefer using the QL77JC4 plugs in any case.

Don't always believe what the BRP web-site tells you as they too can make mistakes. I'll stick with my QL78YC's

Given todays fuel quality the 78 is definately prefered over the 82. Still not a fan of the long reach plug in that situation.
