I have a 1996, 40 HP, 2 cylinder yamaha outboard. It spun a bearing on the lower rod bearing, ruined the crank shaft, rod, and knocked a hole in the block. I found a used block but it had the same exact problem. I was able to weld the block and repair. While looking for parts, I discovered that yamaha has discotinued this model because of vibration problems. I am trying to find out if it is worth rebuilding or not? The parts are over 800.00 dollars, not counting the labor charges. If anybody out there has had any dealings with one of these I would like to hear your reply.

There were eleven different 40 hp models in 1996. It would help if you told us what model you have. Does your motor have an oil tank and oil injection? What kind of oil were you using?
