Check the engine temp. Scott. Make sure it's coming up to temp. when running. The V4's hate being cold. You may also want to try the XD-50 oil. Its' a synthetic blend. Don't smoke near as much. I still got some FICHT Ram oil I been using. It's a synthetic blend. Probably what the XD-50 is, just a new name and color. But....

Check out the temp. and see whats up. OH! Good way to do this, when the engine is idling, you should be able to lay your fingers on the flat area ontop and forward of the heads for several seconds without having to jerk them off. If the engine has been idling a while and one or both of the heads are cold, change out the t-stats.

Re: 1997 115 crossflow smokes

I hear ya' bout the expensive oil. We get it by the bulk at the shop and fill our own gallon containers. Can sell it a lot cheaper that way and it's the same oil.

One thing ya' could try. Temporaily (sp) disconnect the oil from the VRO pump and run pre-mix for a tank or so and see what she does. May be a way to find out if the pump is over oiling. But before ya' do that, check and make sure the oil reservoir is venting properly. May not be getting vent.

Too much oil can be caused by air leak in fuel line.

Re: 1997 115 crossflow smokes

Too much oil can be caused by air leak in fuel line, check valve in pump, and pressure in remote oil tank.

Re: 1997 115 crossflow smokes

i have checked the vent hole on oil tank appears ok,i put a new primer pump on and put 3/8 fuel line from seperator filter to engine fuel filter eliminating the quick disconnect as i thought it might suck air all fuel connects checked and are tight.ill run it with the oil cap loose just in case.then i guess i will disconnect vro and see what happens .thanks Scott

After the engine set a few days, check the water septerator, for oil. If the check valve is bad oil will bleed back to the filter as the fuel drains back into the tank,

OBJ or clanton ..i have found that after it sat overnite i have a strong mixture of oil /gas in motor fuel filter ,i have a weaker mix in the fuel line from the primer bulb and no oil mixed in the fuel seperator. Is this feed back normal or could it be in the oil pump ,ill try starting it with the oil cap off the oil tank but the vent seema to work. Thanks Scott
