Can someone help me with the correct starting procedure for a 1997 Yamaha 115HP. This key does NOT push in. It has a toggle switch (momentary) just under the ignition key that appears to be some kind of choke. There is also a "pull out" choke on the front of the motor and there is a "warmup" lever on the throttle.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 1997 115 Yamaha Starting Procedure

you can download the owners manual from a 1998 here, I think the 98 and 97 115 are similar.
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/service/viewmanuals/viewmanuals.aspx?ls=outboard

Pump the ball firm. set the throttle to warm up. hold the toggle switch use the pull out for choke as needed. once started, release the choke. Let the engine warm up for a minute or two, then throttle back.
Never rev your motor in neutral/no load. 1200rpm is plenty.

Re: 1997 115 Yamaha Starting Procedure

Thanks for the reply. We had a hard time getting it started yesterday(it has been sitting up for ~4months). I did not hold the toggle up with turning the key....hopefully that will be the combination that I was missing and it'll start a little easier today. After starting yesterday, It never had a problem starting again.

The link to the owners manual doesn't seem to work. I'd really like to have one. Can you verify link or if anyone has another link, please post.

Thanks!
