Hi Everyone,

I might be crazy. It seems like it should be so simple, but apparently its not for me. Here is the story. I have 5 gallon gas tank to run my Johnson kicker. It has what we'll call fuel fitting A. My 120hp Force motor has fitting B. I want to make a adapter hose to connect my 5 gallon tank (fitting a) to my Force motor (fitting b) for use if my main tank runs out of fuel. Sounds simple right? Here is the problem. I've been to my local dept store that sells marine fittings. I've tried 2 sizes that both say they're for 1998 or newer merc motors (nothing for older than 1998). Both have problems connecting. Has anyone been through this before? I've also searched the web a bit to no avail. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Break down, part with some bucks, and convert the built in tank and Force engine to OMC fuel fittings. I'm reasonably certain that they can be found in Wal- Mart. Otherwise spend big bucks and buy them at a marine store/ dealer.

Install a water fuel seperating filter.Wally World.
It has 2 in ports and 2 out ports.
Get the appropriate size fittings and then you never have to unhook anything,it stays on all the time.
Just make sure you have Ethanol resistant hose.

Hello again. Thanks eveyone for the ideas, however I lucked out.

They say, third time's a charm. And this time it was. I took a final hard look at the fitting on my motor, and then compared it to what I rememberd from the store. It seemed very similar to the connector for the Yamaha motors. I bought it, brought it home, and it worked. So, the Moeller #33481-10 that says its for Yamaha motors worked on my 1997 120hp Force motor. Now my adapter its assembled.

Jerry, the water fuel separator. If I run non-ethanol gas, is it still recommended?

Water separating filter is always a good idea.

Your Force uses Merc fuel connectors.
The connector at the motor end of the hose, is different that the connector at the tank end.
Not much different, but different.

Remember, every quick connect fitting you have, is another possible source for an air leak, which might leave you stranded on the water.

jerry's suggestion is a very good one.
Additionally, I would put an inline shutoff valve in each line.

Re: 1997 120hp Force - Fuel Connector

I tried all of the Moeller fittings that my local store had for "Mercury", but none of them fit, and they all said for 1998 or newer. I don't know why, but the "Yamaha" fitting fits perfectly. Weather permitting, I'm going to give it a try this weekend.

I didn't realize that quick connects could cause problems. Is it a common problem?

So what is the story with the water filters? How / where are they normally installed? Just mount them to the transom? It looks like there are a mirriad to choose from. What should I look for, and how often do you change the filters?

Thanks

I use the Wally World filter.
I don't have any inline connectors.
The boat came with 2,one for each motor.I removed them as soon as I got the boat.
Mounting the filter.Any where in the back of the boat near the motor.
Not too high. You need access to check it.
Mines in the splashwell. It get's hit with saltwater and it doesn't last as long but it's real easy to get to.
Otherwise it would be impossible to get at.
