i just purchased this motor that is on a starcraft starship 2000. the previous owner said he didnt see a tell tale when hooked up to a motor flush. he bought a water pump kit..but never installed it.
today i installed the new water pump and ran it..the only stream i saw was coming out near the lower end..nothing coming from where i would expect from the lower cowl.
i did find a couple of fittings on the cowling that have water hoses on them. what i noticed is the one with some kind of valve in it was leaking inside the cowling.
the fitting has a plastic square plug in it. next to it is another smaller fitting..looks white on the outside.
upon close inspection it has a hose of it but looks like it has some kind of copper or metal in it.
the question is what are these fittings for and where in the heck is the tell tale?
when i ran it i didnt get any water come out of the exhaust port just below these fittings..but the lager fitting in the cowling was leaking water so i would say the water pump was working. i ran the motor about 5 minutes and it didnt seem hot.
thanks.

A lot of those V6 Mercs will not have a telltale until the thermostat opens. On the flusher, they may never open. Teletale should be rear lower starboard side of motor. you might inspect the thermostats. They can go bad. Oh yes, replace the water pump impeller, two gaskets and wearplate.
