1997 150 hp faststrike lower unit fitting

never noticed this fitting.... I took the lower unit off to replace the waterpump and replace a few seals as im getting water in the gear case..... is the fact it is open bad? am i losing water pressure possibly? not quite sure what it is for... I know the bass boat guys plug something in to this area... im thinking spedometer, but cant figure oput how they get speed out of that port?

Correct it is for a speedometer.-----Look further down on the front of the lower unit.----You will find the hole for that picks up the water pressure.

thanks...... so it just spitting out water that was only for that fitting anyway!....right? not taking away from my other water pressure

??----It is a feed for a speedometer.----Nothing to do with cooling water pressure.
