ser #0G541432. Motor stalls as if ignition switch were turned off, warning beeps heard immediately after stall (as if ignition turned back on). Oil OK, temp OK, plenty of oil smoke. Always restarts easily. Seems effected(worse)in rough water. Is there a mercury tilt cut out? Diagrams show it but I can't locate it on motor? Could it be ignition switch? Motor has brand new ECM and fuel pumps.

2nd. Problem. Motor floods with gas and is hard to start after trailering with motor tilted up. Found GAS (diluted) in oil tank on engine!! Any suggestions please??

Yep sounds like the ign switch or the lanyard kill switch is shorted.

TMD

hello
look for a bad ign switch or a loose feed. test all grounds for clean and tight. what is happening is when the ign circuit loses power and regains it the alarm system thinks the key switch was just turned on. this ign/fuel system requires a constant 12 volts to operate. a momentary loss of it will shut it down.look for poor or loose connections. shorts are usually self evident what with fuses blowing and wires smoking. the thing they taught is in 3 years of navy electronics school is . keep the smoke in and the rest is PFM. :)
good luck and keep posting
PS just did one on a 32 fountain with a pair of 225 EFI offshores. was a bad key switch

hello again
on problem # 2 look at the float and the needle valve in the vapor seperator. and double check the low pressure pump. if it wont flood with motor sitting upright and only with it trimmed test the vapor seperator tank.

Re: 1997 200 EFI Offshore stalls

I found the problem yesterday, corroded 12v ignition wire just south of the ignition switch where a "dealer" mechanic at Travis Boating Center spliced in an hour meter. All the gauges have a 12v Ign input, why they didn't put a terminal on one of those locations is beyond me. But no, they put one of those dumb little blue splice things so close to the ign switch that I will probably have to replace the harness. The switch is hardwired, no terminals.

I ordered a float and needle kit for the vapor separator. Hopefully, that will fix the flooding. The fuel pump has been rebuilt.

Thanks for all the advice.
