I'm having some trouble identifying a tilt/trim intermittent issue. Is there a step-by-step approach to sleuthing potential issues on the tilt/trim circuit? sometimes it will work fine, and the next thing I know, its dead. no clicking, no nothing.
- I took apart the throttle handle and saw some abraded electrical lines in the vertical part of the handle, so wrapped them in electrical tape, but not really the smoking gun I was hoping for.
- thing is, it works sometimes, and then nothing. fluid levels and fluid condition look good. battery terminals are clean (new). checked the 'button' which is the circuit breaker that's right on the motor. it was not popped. Have a single prop SX Cobra outdrive. when it works its just fine both up and down. I'm missing something and just cannot see it.
can I apply direct power to a pump wire to test the motor? (although when it does work, it seems to work fine without hesitation)
- logically thinking... if it was a blown fuse, then it wouldn't be intermittent. but...then again...now its dead, so I really could have a blown fuse now.
- under dash fuses are ok. is there an in-line fuse?
- is there a "best order" of things to check?
I'm thinking:
1. power to motor directly. Works? then backtrack power circuit
2. is power getting to motor when activated. No?
a. test circuit breaker
b. test thumb switch for continuity.
c. ?
thanks everyone!
