1997 5.7 Mercuiser - Can I Add A Remote Engine Oil Filter?

Changing oil on this engine is a major pain due the location of the oil filter low and on the rear of the block, very difficult to get to. Can anyone here recommend a good remote oil filter setup, Mercruiser or others? I'm not crazy about filters mounted upside down, how do you keep from dropping oil all over with an upside down mounted filter? Does the engine have to be removed to install a remote oil filter, mine is in a 26' deck boat.

Thank you.

Easy install.Cap with hose fittings screws on where the filter normally would and new mount is usually in the front of the engine.Off of the riser on some.Charlie

I think I'll install one of these on my boat at some point. I might open up the old argument though: "It's not a marine specific part!!!"

I ran one of these on my old camaro race car that took way more abuse than a boat, and it held up just fine.

Putting that on is about the same difficulty as changing the oil filter. And then you only have to do it one more time. One of the best mods I ever did to my old Tahoe. I used one off another Mercruiser engine, just like the one in that ebay auction. I also replaced my drain plug with a fitting attatched to a hose to drain the oil easier too. It takes longer to get the oil and filter than it does to change it now.
