Working on a 24 ft lowe pontoon has a force 75hp. problem is it was my father inlaws and he was a master at just rigging stuff together. he past away so I'm attempting to remodel the boat to surprise my wife.it appears that he was trying to adjust timing from what I've read on here and other places shows to be way out, but it runs just not great. Does anyone have a manual I believe it's a 97 model

You can get a Clymer manual but it includes all models 1984-1997. You need to know the serial number to order parts.I would test compression, check idle speed and timing. You'll need a tach, timing light, and remote starter switch.

I looks like legalfee's getting a commission from the sale of the crappy Clymer manual??

Find a factory manual.
A Clymer manual, it covers every force from 1984 through 1987.
That's hundreds of models.
No way can it give you the detailed specifics needed to fix your motor.

You 1997 75 wasn't the best designed motor Force/Mercury put out.
The single carb led to problems of fuel starvation in the top cyl.
If adjusted right and not overheated it will run good for a long time.

No I actually have a crappy Seloc manual. It serves the purpose that I need you just have a lot of irrelevant stuff.

I've got the light with tach just checked timing and its 30 out finding it hard to believe it cranks and runs at all. I read some where it should be 28 at wot and 8 I believe at idle. I also noticed the plugs get pretty oily and smokes a lot at idle but don't on the water. mixture screw was set at like 7/8 out

7/8 out is at the very low end and at the brink of disaster waiting to happen. Do not set the idle mixture screw below 1 turn out.

As for oily plugs, this is normal with 2 cycle motors although you might want to check to make sure you are using 50:1 fuel-oil mix.

The timing is correct although on some manuals it states, 32 BTDC Static and 30 BTDC Dynamic (it all depends on ignition systems) but 2 degree will not matter a whole lot.

"Not running great" is very subjective. Need info on WOT rpm and also speed through water. Better yet, compression numbers on all three cylinders.

30d off???
Are you advancing the throttle to wide open as you turn the motor over?
Static timing or just hooking the light to the top plug?
You read the instructions for static timing?

2d either way it won't affect the performance so 30-32 should get you better than 18mph.

A little more detail on what your doing or done?

Also if the fuel system isn't right?
It can give you the same symptoms as the timing being off.

Check for loose fuel line connections, soft hoses, dirt in the main jet, fuel pump diaphragm damaged?.

Sorry it's been so long replaced whole fuel system carb leaks a little around the bowl.. if I set static timing at 30 wot when at idle it drops down to -6... only thought is maybe the remote and linkage has to much travel any ideas plz this thing is driving me crazy

There can be a very small gap in the reeds.

18mph with a 24 ft. and 75 hp your not gonna get much better??
What prop is on it?
What are the rpm's at wide open?
Are the toons clean? no buildup?

Smoke at idle, normal.
The stbd side with the recirc system, check the hoses and check valves on the bottom of the dog bone?
Sometime they clog with carbon and cause poor running.
