Hey I am looking at a "97" Carver 355 Aft. She looks in good shape, but I do not know a lot about Carver in general. Are they good boats? Do they hold up well? Is there any specific area I should should look for problems on her? I will have a pro give her a going over prior to buying, but would like any input from you guys.
Thanks!

Howdy Grim
My 2 cents worth...
Carver yachts have been around a long time and make a very sturdy product. I've never been for a cruise in a 355 but have in an older 36 (twin gas). It was a really nice ride and the interior had a neat layout. I think the 355 was discontinued around '97 and the newer 'funky looking' line was introduced. IMHO They should have stayed with the 355 'cause they haven't made a 'normal' looking boat since. I did a little search and noticed that this model you had the choice of diesel or gas. Consider the resale value as fuel prices sky-rocket here. The older 36 I was in had 2 x 454's. It sounded and performed well but the economy (when on plane) was enough to bring a tear to the eye. However, at 6 or 7 mph it was acceptable (sorta'). A qualified surveyer will know where the weak areas are and inspect them for you. Don't buy a boat without one. So... personally, I'd buy and plan to in the near future, a trawler like a CHB, Grand Mariner, Grand Banks... etc. because of the resale and fuel economy. It hurts to go slow but these things only burn about 2 or 3 gph at cruise. That leaves more money for beer and steaks. This is only my 2 bits bud.
