due to popular demand I decided to post this job. Before anyone says it...YES the rest of the boat was rotten too, but owner did not, or could not afford a complete refit. I informed him of the extent of the rot, but he just wanted it to get back under power and might do a more thorough refit after the season is over.
The story behind this was that he was under power, getting up to planing speed when his motor twisted off its mounts. The motor mounts were completely rotten
Beautiful boat that had a dirty little secret
Motor mount where it tore loose due to rot
Fuel cell area, was rotten to the core
Removed fuel cell and rotten motor mounts, left one motor mount intact until I had second built in order to use it for measurements
cut, fit and glassed in the fuel area
Then rebuilt motor mounts and glassed them in using a 24oz. Woven Roving covered by a lighter mat and cloth to minimize the pattern. Also the original motor mount was a plywood box, and when I made mine I used a solid 4X6 for added strength
