I have a 1997 Celebrity I/O with a 205 ford engine. After we run around the lake for thirty minutes or so and turn off the engine to let someone tube, it will not start or be incrediably hard to start. I have had it in the shop, twice for the problem and they keep telling me that older boats like this are finicky and not to worry. I have had to be towed in twice because it will not start. First start up of the day is easy in nuetral and even after I give it gas it will either not start or take several cranks. Any suggestions will be great. It had a new fuel pump a month ago and the choke has been checked and is operating normally.

Re: 1997 Celebrity restart

I had a tuneup done in april with plugs and points. The fuel pump was bad. It was operating intermittantly and finally not at all. The boat runs smooth with no backfiring or hesitation. It just will not restart after being run for about thirty minutes. The choke was adjusted twice due to it flooding, but two differant mechanics at the shop have looked at the choke and found it working normally.

Coachredd,

You need to do your best to get some engine and drive model numbers. Then awesome guys like Don S and Coors can help you. If you don't know where to look, then just ask, I'm sure they will give you some ideas.

Re: 1997 Celebrity restart

This seems to be a common issue with old boats, I have the exact same thing with mine and have read lots of posts on here from guys with the same problem. After rebuilding carb, tune up, and just about everthing else, its still the same. I stumbled on a way to get it started again that works for me. I put it in nuetral and put throttle open, lever all the way down, hit the starter and just when I hear it/feel it start to fire, I pull it back so it doesn't over rev. Works every time for me!:D

That means your carb is out of adjustment/ needs rebuild.
