I just recently purchased a 1997 Bayliner Jazz. 14 foot with a Mercruiser 175hp V6 I/O motor. Mainly I want to use this boat for tubbing and some riding around the lake nothing too serious. The gentleman I bought it from said that he had it for 4 months and had only taken it out 4 times. He said that before he bought it that it had been sitting up for 2 years. So he said he changed the spark plugs out and thats all he did to get it running. Now no offense to the gentle I bought it from but he thought it was a 95 Seadoo. So Im guessing he put 95 Seadoo plugs in a 97 Bayliner. Now I don't know a whole lot about boats but I'm pretty sure that is not good. But anyway my problem is you turn the motor over anywhere from 4 to 6 times and it tries to crank. Well after about the 6 or 7th time it cranks and it runs like a champ. Until you put it in neutral or turn it off again. It'll die and then it will take 6 or 7 more turns of the key before it will crank again. Ive ran 2 bottles of SeaFoam carb cleaner through it. I'm thinking the carbs need to be cleaned but I just want to get some ideas before I spend the money to do that. Thanks in advance for all help.
