Just bought a bullet 20 with this engine. I'm trying to get all the information I can on this engine. Is it considered a good engine? bad engine? Things to look out for? Thanks.

Bob

Great motor! It likes Champion plugs, 87 octane, good oil and rpm. It doesnt like being lugged. Thats a good boat that responds well to rpm. Target 6000 rpm with an average load.

If its new to you and you dont have a positive history, change the water pump. You may consider cleaning the carbs if its been sitting or you dont know for sure.

Good luck and welcome!

Thanks for the feedback! I'll go through things on the engine before using it. I've got a manual ordered but in the meantime, does anyone know what the compression should be? (wet or dry) Best oil to use? Is it a good idea to also put a little oil in the fuel?

Thanks
Bob

As long as the compression is no more than 15 lbs between high and low its good. On those motors one bank may be about 5 lbs different than the other.

A bit of oil in the gas cant hurt especially while you are verifying the oil pump works.

Good luck!
