1997 johnson smokes

i have a (1997 johnson outboard motor 70hp) w/ oil injection, every time i try to start it , it smokes alot and wont stay started.<br />i have to keep pushing in the key to keep it going,<br />but it still keeps smoking the oil primer bulb is always hard and the fuel bulb is not so hard.....Any suggestions??? some of you told me to just run 50/1 but how do you do this. do i take out the oil pump and put in a fuel pump and ware can i find this

first thing welcome to the board.<br />if you choose to mix your fuel and oil in the tank you will need to (remove) plug off the oil injection line/s. But it sounds like you have a fuel problem, have the carbs been cleaned and/or rebuilt recently? If the bulb is soft it may be pulling air from a bad connection or hose, even the tank could have a problem. Can you keep it running by pumping the bulb? The tank vent (if its on the cap) is open right.<br />Richard

thanks for the advice , yes i can keep it going by pumping the bulp. But the other day i took off the gas fiter and there was oil in the gas line..what do you think?

Time for a pump. Its leaking as you said into the fuel side. Alot of smoking is a sign of a bad diaphram. Common problem on these.

No kit, whole pump $250.<br />Mix gas 50/1 untill you are sure it is working
