1997 mercury 115 hp remove steering cable

I am trying to remove the cable from the engine. What size wrench is need for the steering cable nut and what size wrench is used to hold the nuts that are on the moto

What I mean is what size wrench for the the jam nuts that hold the tilt trim tube together. Thanks for any replies

The pipe is likely 1-1/4" OD, so something like 1-3/8" wrench is likely the size. I use a large crescent wrench, but 2 pipe or Monkey wrenches will work.

Usually the motor nuts will stay tight.

I got off the steering nut ( it is a bayliner capri) at the steering wheel it turns but has resistance, took off the track with gears and sprayed some lubricate in there. how hard should the steering be to turn when disconnected from motor, It turns but not super free, ok to have resistance?

if you completely remove it from the motor and it is still stiff you need a new cable.What usually happens is the spring steel wrapping get some rust and corrosion and begins to crush the inner core
