Hello, like the title says I'm having ignition problems with my Mercury 1997 25HP, no spark one one cylinder. I have swapped coils and confirmed the problem is not the coil.

First, the parts diagram for this motor shows a "Switch box".
The ISSUU - CDI Electronics Practical Outboard Ignition Troubleshooting by CDI Electronics, refers to a "CDM module".

Are these in fact the same thing?

Second, I'm not the brightest at book learnin and a little overwhelmed by manuals such as that one but can someone tell me if page 85 is the right page for my motor?

Oh, and one more question. If I remove the pull rope starter to get to the flywheel will the spring fly out or does it come off as a unit?

Thanks

Jim;

The parts list shows below a certain s/n it is called an Ignition module and above, a switchbox. What is your engine s/n? Also, if you do not have the Mercury service manual, see my message to you in Notifications at the top of the page.

Jim;

I thought I recognized the name. I am sure I sent this before but if you don't have it, that s/n comes up as:

MERCURY - ( 25 H.P. (1997 ))
Serial No: 0G490062 Model No: 1025312TD
