I have a Four Winns 205 Sundowner which is fitted with the above engine coupled with a Volvo DPS-M Duoprop Outdrive. I was out in the boat recently and all was fine, but on out return leg the engine developed a misfire. This seemed to be some kind of backfire through the Flame Arrester. There was a popping sound followed by revs ropping away, after which revs built up again back to the throttle setting I was using at about 200rpm. When I disengaged the gears and revved the engine, it was fine, but the minute I put it back into gear, and the engine was under load, it happened again. Once safely back on the yard I contacted a Marine Engineer. We attached the mufflers and started the engine up. The engine appeared to be running fine, and the engineer I had looking at it with me couldn't find anything wrong. Anyone got any pointers as to where or what we should look at, or testing ideas to rule in/out possible problems. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Running under load and running on muffs are two different things.

Is this fuel injected or carbd?
