1997 Quicksilver 3000 Remote Control Removal

Hello All,

Having issues with shifter, got the handle off, removed three screws, nuts from under nameplate, but can't seen to get unit off the side where it is mounted.

Is the snap ring under the 11'16 nut my problem? My snap ring pliers don't quite have enough reach...

BTW,the link to the Mercruiser Remotes Service Manual covers Commander 3000, but not the older unit like I have...
