1997 sea ray sea rayder steering bad boat pulls to the left

hey just bought the boat its a 1997 sea ray searayder 120 f16

it runs great planes ok ... here it is steering sucks,,

get top end and i have to fight the wheel to the right to keep it striaght..

and lets say if you or going top end and you r on plane you back off the gas with the wheel stright ,,,it wants to hard left ... please help and pics would help me to thanks

Hello 97 sea ray check the steering housing for play.They make a repair kit for that.

Also, check the position of the trim tab on the lower part of the anti-cavitation plate on the lower gear housing. All CW rotation props pull the rear of the boat to the rear. You can counteract some of this force by turning the trim tab counter-clockwise, so that if you were looking from the top, the front of the vertical fin on the tab would be pointing to 10:30-11am. That's not exact, you'll need to try adjusting it to get the best position for your boat and target speed.

Also, don't know if this is what you're doing, but it's not good practice to cut the throttle back really fast from WOT. The stern squats very rapidly, and you'll get a big stern wave rolling up against the transom. In really bad cases, it can come right up over the transom. If you slow down gradually, does the boat still fight to the left?

I have the same thing with my 95 F16 Here is what I found! the Helm Or steering box had some broken teeth,and the steering cable at the pump end was broken inside witch caused the cable to flex under pressure caused by high speed!Turn your steering to the right and have some one hold it and see if you can move the rudder to the left. if so change the cable.
