Hey everyone! I recently acquired a bass boat from a family member for free. Trailer included :). First, a little history on the boat. It was purchased new in 1997 and was used regularly for 10 or 11 years. Some things came up and the boat just sat in their backyard up until this point. It was covered for a couple of years, but eventually, the cover fell apart and the boat sat in the Florida elements.

Once I moved it to my house, I did some maintenance on the outboard. It has a 1998 Evinrude 115 SPL. After a couple of routine maintenance things (fluids, water pump, spark plugs, etc...) the engine started without much issue. The bilge pump and 1 out of 2 livewell pumps work as well. The trolling motor works as well.

Now for the not so good. The floor is a little soft in both of the footwells, as well as underneath the removable portion before stepping up to the top deck. The upper deck is all fiberglass and feels solid. The transom also feels solid and sounds ok (I think).

I removed the front drain plug and put my phone in to get some pictures of the underside. It looks a lot different than some of the other restoration projects I see on here. I was expecting to see a bunch of wood, but instead, it is all fiberglass. I haven't drilled any holes to check the stringers yet as I would need to cut out some of the floor to do so.

Assuming I am one of the very few lucky ones and the stringers are still dry, how would I go about replacing the floor? The wood goes underneath both of the consoles, which are molded to the top part of the boat. I don't have any pictures at the moment, but I can snap a few within the next day or two.

Heres to hoping this isn't too big of a job

Welcome to iBoats.
I agree the stringers LOOK good but...they are NOT all fiberglass. They have wood cores. Your description does give you some hope in that the deck could be rotten due to exposure and the stringers MIGHT be ok. You can't know for sure without drilling into them and see if the wood shavings are light colored and dry. Same for the transom Core samples will tell you IF it's good to go. If all you need is a new deck(unlikely) then you'll be on the water in no time

Thanks.

Sorry, I knew there was wood under the fiberglass. I meant a lot of other boat restoration pictures I see just looks like bare wood under the deck.

First boat owner here, so I'm hoping a total rebuild isn't required, although I'm fine with putting in some work. Hearing the motor fire up was a satisfying sound.
