Engine is 1998 Evinrude 115 Ficht, short shaft. The Gearcase main shaft input seal is a single seal (leaking). In 1999 they went to a double seal with a new bearing housing and seal.
Can I replace the entire 1998 housing and seal with the improved 1999 housing and seal? Anyone actually done this? The 1998 PN is 438963 and the 1999 PN is 439476. As far as I can tell, everything else is the same including the main shaft, brearings, etc.
