The pump kit (46-00012, Engineered Marine Products)/without housing.

The housing will not screw down flush with the plate. Misses by about .030.

Take a very good look at the bottom of the housing.------May explain why you see that gap.

Yes, the rum and years does that. I have been replacing the same water pump every three or so years for well over twenty years and the location tab slipped my mind completely. The bum old memory cost four helicoil inserts. It is a good thing I had the presence of mind to us this site. It is a savior.

Thank you.

Things getting out of hand. The overheating started out when the temp gage showed 180 degrees at idle, normal is 150 degrees. Water pressure was normal and the telltale flow was strong.

The water pump had three years on it, so what the heck, change it out. So I did.

The boat is in the water. It starts up and the telltale stream seems good. But the temp gage is still rising to 180 degrees. So I removed the thermostats and the temp holds at around 140 degrees. After about 10 minutes of slow trolling speed the hot temp warning light comes on. I look and the pressure reads zero and no telltale stream. But the temp gage hold at 140?? Then steam comes from the telltale hole ??

And that’s where I’m at. I‘m stumped. I have made an appointment for a shop repair.

Thermostats help hold the water pressure up, removing them changes how the system works that can lead to overheating
