First off thanks for looking I found a nice condition Excel boat. I was not looking for a ski type of boat but it being 21foot it has a lot of room. I will be using it in the waterway and out in the ocean on calm days. Mainly just for fun and spending time with the family and friends. My first concern is with the 150hp how much gas it will drink. With the ski type build of the boat I cant imagine that it weights any more than a larger 18ft CC. There is a rear deck area and the front comes to a sharp point making me think this 21foot would mun more like a 18 or 19 foot boat. If I keeps speeds to a reasonable level I think it will not burn to much fuel. I have little to no need of running 50MPH or do I think that it would even be safe to run that fast in my area. Well, thanks for reading this much if you have any suggestions feel free to give them. Boat has no rips or tears motor looks good with only a minimal amount of rust only on the trim motor. 150HP Johnson Sea Pro. Garage Kept

rule of thumb, is 1 gallon per hour for every 10 hp 150= 15 gallons per hour, at wide open throttle. should be a nice handling boat.

I understand the rule of thumb but I figure I would never run WOT and there has to be a decent about of difference with different boat designs and weights. Considering running the boats at the same speed not both at WOT. Id have to guess that the Excel can break 50HPH.

Here is the info from the Wellcraft website. With that motor, you're looking at under 50mph and about 4mpg at cruise, probably about 3.5mpg in real life use. If you want to break 50 you'll need a bigger motor. It is rated for a 175hp.

How much $$ is it selling for? Sounds like a nice boat! Wellcraft makes solid boats and the "garage kept" thing is just what you want to buy if lucky enough to find one this big!

Gas usage/cost!?!?!? What's the difference? That depends on how you use it with any boat! Yeah, a little boat with a small engine uses a bit less, but it's a totally different boat!

Asking $6900 but pretty sure he is open to offers. Thats right around its NADA value. As far as going over 50MPH thats not a issues was just thinking it would. As long as I can break 40 Im happy and the 37mph cruising speed is plenty for me. My last boat would only do 33 with no load and only me in it.

Of course, the #1 thing to consider is whether the boat suits your needs. It sounds like a very nice cruising/hang around boat and a nice ski/tube boat. IF this is what you want, then on to steps 2-? . If not, move on.

I think if you could get anything off that price you've made a very good deal for a Wellcraft boat in VG condition! IF it has no soft spots in the floor and little damage to the upholstery AND an engine that runs well, you could be looking a LONG time to find on as nice, that big, not too old and at a much lower price.

That's sounds like a pretty good price to me. I paid more for mine last year and it's 5yrs older.:(
Also, judging by the Wellcraft brocure, I would say that the Johnson O/B is not original and may be newer than the boat.

If you're happy with those speeds that's all that matters.
My last boat was a 28mph tri-hull. This boat runs near 60 and I'm looking for more.:p

Well, went a totally different direction with getting a boat. I just put a deposit on a 17ft semi V Carolina skiff with a 4cyl Yamaha Both 2002 and Also has a new trailer.
