I just bought a 1998, 25hp Mariner and was hopeing someone could tell me about the CHOKE. I was told that the IDLE is also controlled with the choke. Is this info correct? If so, how? All waters are froze over so I can't take it out for a test run untill spring. Any help would be welcome. Thanks.

It's not a choke it's a primer and if adjusted properly the idle can be controlled to a point, you have the winter to order a owners manual.

Re: 1998 25hp Mariner

On both me 1996 Merc 25 HP, and me 1989 Merc 25 HP engines ya twist the round choke knob either direction ta increase or decrease idle speed.

Me 1987 25 HP Merc has a square knob that has two positions, n' the idle doesn't adjust to the best of me knowledge, (only one functional brain cell).

Hope that helps ya, good luck. JR

Re: 1998 25hp Mariner

Thanks for the info. you answerd my question and I didn't have to spend 35 bucks on a manual as had been suggestd before. I joined this forum for help but I guess some people have stock in the printing business and want you to PAY for the help when a simple answer to a question is all your'e looking for. Maybe I'll have better luck next time. In the meen time, if I can answer a question, I will do so. HAPPY BOATING TO ALL. Remember, there are more fish takin out of a lake the ever were in it.
