1998 25hp mercury mariner Backfiring?

Hi my 25hp is running but backfires when in neutral. it backfires and during the backfireit wants to stall but stays running and it continues to backfire then stalls after backfire

This backfire, is it like the engine 'sneezing' through he carb? If so, then you need to richen the idle mixture about 1/8 to 1/4 turn....
