1998, 3000 Martinique

Thinking about buying a 1998 3000 Martinique with the following:
5.7 Volvo GS - 400 hrs
SX Drives
Kohler Genny

What is a good price?

Couple of questions:
1. is there access to the anchor locker from the cabin - boat doesn't have a windlass
but I'm not sure how to deal with tangles without access to the locker?

2. Does the side seat have a storage box under it? Is it hard to remove the side box for complete access to the engine compartment?

I have a 2001 3000 Martinique. They should be similiar.

1) There is no access to the anchor locker from the cabin. There is a pretty good size hatch on the bow to get at the anchor line.

2) There is pretty good storage under the side seat.

3) There is a hatch to get at the engine. If you REALLY have to do some work, you can remove the hatch and the decking. The hatch is pretty light. The decking can be removed by yourself, but it is kinda heavy and awkward.

As for price, I'm not sure. I would just check boat trader and do some comparison shopping.

So it's good to here from a current owner. Do you have a windlass and if yes what model. I'm concerned about having to untangle the anchor line when lowering or raising.

Is there anything I need to know or look out for during the survey and sea trial.

What engines to you have a what is your creuising speed/rpm.

Hope you don't mind all my questions - this is my 4 th boat but I feel like it's my first

Have a few questions;

1. I'm being told that the header liner must be remove to access the wiper motor. Is this difficult to do.

2. How long should it take for 4KW kohler generator to start? Is locking up the generator a real problem?

Response: I think that it is a BOWMAR. The O&M manual for the windlass is on the boat, so I don't have the brand in front of me. I have never had an issue with it tangling up. As long as nobody is jacking with the line, it just coils up on itself. The windless handles chain and line. Note: I did buy a hand crank in the event that I had issues with the windlass. Knock on wood, I have never had to use it. It is the same kind of crank that they use on a sail boat windlass.
Response: I guess I would just want to make sure that the engines were in good running order. You want to have power to get up out of the hole. You should be able to get up on a plane without help from the trim tabs. My boat has the Duo Prop drives. I can spin the boat around easy with one engine FWD and one in reverse.
The person performing the survey should have a good idea what to check. A couple important things I would check would be

1) engine compression test
2) outdrive condition (any dings, is drive oil milky, condition of bellows)
3) Condition of through hull fittings....are they grounded
4) run the generator and see if it can carry a load (AC, stove, microwave, lighting, ice maker, fridge, etc)
5) check fuel filtration system. is there a water seperator (racor) before the engine?
6) All blowers and pumps working
7) Head working ok? Any leaks
8) test hot water heater
9) test Air conditioner

that is to name a few........

Response: I have Volvo 5.7L GXi on the boat. They are rated at 320HP/piece. I don't know the cruising speed off hand, but when the conditions are ok I run the engines at ~3200-3300RPM. It seems like a good speed. One of these days, I will figure out where the fuel economy is best.....

I am not sure on the access to the wiper motor. You may be able to access the motor from the little panel under the helm. It would be a very tight fit. I think I have only used the wiper motor once.........when it was surveyed.

I have a Kohler generator too. It is a pain in the ***. I honestly never use it since we are hooked up to shore power at the marina. I start it on occasion to just keep it going. Like I said, it is a pain in the ***. It starts sometimes pretty quick.......other times, it takes awhile to get her to crank. I try not to wear down the starter.

I'm not sure I know what you mean when you say "locking up"......

I was told if you crank too long water can be pulled into the cylinder that causes it to lock-up.

I just purchased this boat. So I don't know much about the boat. I can't even find the speakers in the cabin. What do you have?

The more I learn about this boat the better I like. I have everything working except for the warning horn. I would like to know what size windlass did wellcraft install and where is best to locate it.

Hope there are other 3000 martinique owners that want tto share there lessons learned.
