1998 40hp Merc with no Spark

It has been a long time since I have been on this site and in the outboard scene. I am normally a OMC guy, but It seems that I now have a merc that has fallen in my lap to repair.

I love the new forum lay out, the search is much better than it used to be.

I dont seem to be getting any spark from my motor, and I was wondering if you guys had any tips on trying to narrow it down.

2 or 3 cyl?

Did you check all cyl for spark?

Check for continuity between the black/yellow wire and a good ground.
You should have NO continuity, if you do is could be the lanyard switch, key switch, rev-limiter etc.

Start by disconnecting the black/yellow wire at the engine and get back with the switch box number for a test.
