I have a 1998 75hp Force that kicks or misses a couple of times quite violently when cold at the start of the day. It runs well otherwise and idles fine from then on.

New plugs, done the link and sync, fuel is fresh, new hoses, fuel pump rebuilt about 18 months ago, new wiring loom, compression is ok. Idle speed is 800 in gear.

The mixture screw is about 2 and a bit turns out at the moment. When I tried setting it I had to turn it a long way out before it started loading up.

I will be taking the boat out this weekend and can take a video of it if this would help.

I thought of starting it with the cover off this time to see if it spits back through the carbie although it doesn?t really sound like this is happening.

Any advise on what I should be looking out for or trying would be appreciated.

Cheers

First thing to do is a compression , and spark test.
2 + turns out may be a bit much causing your miss.
I would go back through the link and sink and then try to find that sweet spot
where it runs great and doesn't always cough, sneeze or backfire.
Make sure the timing is set for optimal performance.
