I have a 1998 5.7 Alpha 1 gen 2 Drive it is leaking oil out of the 2 holes on the bottom end under the fins. what could this be ? someone told me shift rod bushing? is this true? or could it be the upper seals? if so how do i change them i know i have to pull the drive,

Could be:
The upper unit seals
the shift shaft seal
The drivshaft seal under the water pump
Start by removing the drive and looking at the upper driveshaft. If the upper seals are leaking there, oil will be all over the driveshaft If No
Split the unit . the shift rod MUST be in a straight line if you see oil at the plastic shift rod base ,that seal is leaking, If thats dry
Remove the water pump assembly and SS wear plate, there`s where you will see the oil
