Hi everyone
Can someone tell me if the drive gear lube monitor reservior cap should have the red seal on the underside. It covers a vent hole just off center that would seem to pressurize the reservior while underway (expanding fluid), but let air in if the fluid level drops, acting like a check valve. Is this normal?
1998 Alpha 1 Gen 2, Square reservior.
Thanks
Tom

Howdy,

That's pretty much how mine works.

If you think about it you wouldn't want the system to produce a vacuum while cooling down and start sucking water into it through possibly leaking seals. There's usually a slight pressure on the drive oil.

There have been drive reservoirs that have blown up like a balloon when water DID get into it and turned to steam when the drive got really hot......that usually means there's something a little "wrong" in there;)

Regards,

Rick
