1998 Alpha 1 gen 2 what prop to use.

Ok so i have a 1998 wellcraft 240SE with a 5.7 with a 17 pitch prop on it i think i have the wrong prop? the problem is i cant get it on plain until i hit 3200 rps there is a lot of cavitation but as soon as i get to 3200rps or so boat will start take off but something is not right what prop should i be using?

You are probably experiencing prop ventilation. .

Did this just stat happening? Or is this a new to you boat?

Do you take off with the trim down all the way? Sometimes taking off with trim too high will ventilate the prop.

What brand and style of prop are you using? Does it have the exhaust tuning ports?

not new to me only second time boat was out in water picked it up as a project and no outdrive is all the way down i also have trim tabs tried a few things still does it i hit the gas it goes no where u can see all the white water churn up all the air i really have to push to get it on plane and just to clarify i checked prop its 14.5x17 dont know the brand of prop and no turning port everything is stock.

May be the prop. Seems like a 5.7 would be ok with a 19p on a 24 footer if the outdrive ratio is OEM. How was this prop chosen? Also it sounds like you had to obtain an outdrive as part of the project, do you know what the drive ratio is for certain?

The bellows are new whole outdrive was gone over but as far as the drive it came with the boat everything appears to be oem . My prop came with boat aswell diameter is 14.5 seams like there is a lot of space between prop and top of out drive compared to my old boat will measure for exact maybe i need to go up in prop diameter ? when i hit gas boat vibrates barely moves when i hit 3200 rps it starts to kick in boat moves faster and no vibration it reminds me of when my jet skis wear ring went bad lol.

Anyone else have any suggestions? i am a auto mechanic have owned a few boats but this one im stumpped i tried a 15x17 prop today that i borrowed from someone it didnt improve much still a pain in the arse to get it to go on plane or cruise.
