I'm surprised that no one jumped on this!

It's not all that hard.

You'll need a Mercruiser service manual. A paper one is nice. Click below for an online one.

You 'll also probably need a transom service "kit" that includes all the stuff.

You can probably get what you need from any Mercury dealer, Mercury Parts Express or try This

You need an alignment tool also, so you can check the alignment before you put it back together.

If this is yearly service you probably ought to change the drive oil, lube the prop shafts etc... See the service manual maintenance section.

Cheers,

Ayuh,........

And you might want to change out the Lower Shift Cable, while you have it all apart.......

Why change the lower shift cable?

A lot of the labor is getting the bellhousing (pivot housing) off the gimbal ring to change the bellows. With all the work involved, it's easy for a few dollars more to replace the cable at the same time. Or, take it all apart next year if the cable goes bad.
It's your choice. You DO NOT have to replace it.

The manual says that you don't need to remove the pivot housing. It says that you need to remove the outdrive(obviously)

If you have seen as many corroded Bravo shift cables that wouldn't come out of the pivot housing as I have, you will see what I mean.
When they are corroded and froze into the housing, you pull the pivot housing, cut the cable and move to the bench for surgery.
