I have a Evinrude 1997 150 Finch fuel injection that my brother in give to me it has a rod come loose.
Now someone told me that a 97 -150 Finch fuel injection motor are not worth fixing. True or false ?

If the DFI system is workign correctly, why not fix it, expecialy if you can do most of the work yourself. Loose Rod, you might have to have the cylinders honed, but it should be pretty straight forward.

In your other thread, JB suggested that the DFI is what killed the engine to begin with. I would see if I could find out what is wrong with the DFI first...

I don't know anything about outboards but I can strip a cac engine to the bare block and rebuild it. How much difference could it be? would all me controls hook up from the 85-150 Johnson to the 1997- Evinrude ?
What would I have to lose the 97 is junk like it is.

I will only fix a 97 if customer does updates to engine and has injectors serviced.
Updates are: pinned heads, convert to rear oiler style block, EMM & injectors sent to DFI in Alabama for testing and servicing and must run XD50 oil.
Yes you can use the 1985 contol box by using a adapter(#176349) but it would be better to use the 176345 adapter and get the system monitor guage also

the controls will work with the other motor, i personally would not put another cent into a FICHT, but that is just my opinion.

Danny, without a factory Service Manual, diagnostic equipment and a lot of experience trying to service that FICHT engine would be like trying brain surgery with a chainsaw.

Where are you located??

Greenbrier Arkansas 72058 about 50 miles from Little Rock Arkasas.

The only thing wrong with my 1985 Johnson was that someone installed a car electric fuel pump on it and removed all all original parts from it . Maybe need a tune up and carbs. rebuilt.I'm on a fixed income and can't afford to fix it.

Part out the FICHT and use the bux to put a fuel pump on the 85.

Good luck. :)

That is too bad.. I had an 94 Intruder on one boat & a 2002 Ficht on another boat.. I personally like the Evinrude 150-175s.It was MY experience that they were very dependable strong running motors dispite the lack of my maintenance skills... Wish I had a good one on my Lund now instead of this lil' 135 Optimax!
