1998 Evinrude 60hp VRO removal

Hi, I'd just like a quick sanity check on VRO pump removal (the deed is done) on a 1998 60hp (3 cyl) Evinrude outboard. My concern is about the System Check and whether this would cause issues. Right now, there is a standard fuel pump in place and I'm pre-mixing fuel at 50:1. The 4-wire VRO connector is disconnected.

FYI, I'm in the process of a great debate with a boat mechanic who doesn't know what the issue with the motor is and is pointing fingers at this. I just want to clear the air and be able to move on to the real issue (the issue being that the motor appears to go into SLOW mode and he's already replaced the temp sensor and it hasn't solved the problem). I have the original, 1998 OMC service manual and the troubleshooting points to a power pack. I don't want to throw any more parts and labor into this if I've potentially done something wrong by replacing the VRO. Thanks again, Al
