Quick question, I have a 1998 Evinrude 90hp outboard. I just put the motor on my boat and took it for a quick spin. When I went to throttle up, the bow of the boat went straight into the air. It would not come down on plane. The bow went so high that the transom began taking on water. I got the motor at the proper height. I tilted the motor all the way down, my question is could I have tilted the motor too far into the boat. The motor does have this steel pin that I can remove to adjust how far the motor tilts into the transom. Could that be my problem.

Thanks Mav

A 90 HP motor should have power trim. Move the pin all the way in and then adjust the trim in as well. As for tilting in to far the answer is NO. Trimming in brings the bow down. Trimming out brings the bow up.

What boat? What is the max hp rating for it?

As Silvertip explained, you start with the engine trimmed fully in for takeoff. As you accelerate, you trim out to achieve ideal RPM/fuel consumption, etc.
