1998 Evinrude Ficht

I'm looking to buy a Stratus with 150 Evinrude Ficht injection but have heard horror stories about the motor,should I stay away from this motor,boat in great condition but have fears about the motor.HELP!!!!!! :confused:

1998 was still OMC, lots O problems with them if it were me I would stay away....

That was definately during the problem period. It would have to be a really sweet deal before I would consider it. Check NADA for value of boat and trailer only...would not add much for the motor. That way if it blew up you would still be ok.

I purchased a 1998 150hp FICHT last year with low compression on 1 cylinder, motor was running, and intended to rebuild it. After reading, and many suggestions from other mechanics....I sold it immediately. Even with all the upgrades, it was a problem motor from birth. Many are around and running fine, but many are not. If you can get a good, and I mean GOOD warranty from dealer, go ahead, otherwise, stay away.

I agree.<br /><br />Either walk away or consider the engine as a parts source and plan to repower.<br /><br />Good luck. :)
