1998 Force 40 HP Overcharging??

Hello,
Recently, my 1998 40 hp Force started to indicate (per the on board voltmeter) that the voltage nearly pegs the meter when it is running. VR is two years old. Any ideas????

Double check the voltage with a hand held multi-meter at the battery. If it is indeed charging more than 14.5 volts DC, then the regulator is bad.

The connectors sometimes need to be taken apart, greased and put back together.
​Look for black spots, loose wires etc.
