1998 Force Mercury 75 H.P. 2 stroke Running rich.

Hi everyone,, I have not logged in to iboats in a while... good thing because the motor has been running well.

Now here is my issue. I have a bit of oily gunk coming out of the upper exhaust hole and it runs rough on the take off.

Not really a big deal, I was told its just running rich.

How would I adjust that to make it run a tiny bit leaner?

From what I have read on here the screw on the side of the carb will lean it out. You turn it in to lean it out.

Good luck

Look at my post about my 75 hp Force you'll see some help on how to tune them.

My guess is that something else is causing the problem or your carb needs to be rebuilt.

Frank Acampora has written a great article about tuning these motors. Located as a ?Sticky? at the top of the Force forum.

I have a 1998/ 75 hp. I used the settings from my manual and the procedure from Frank?s thread and it worked well. His description is MUCH better than what is in the manual!

Don?t lean the mixture off unless you really know the motor is running rich. Being a 2 stroke all the lubrication is in the fuel. With these motors having a single carby feeding 3 cylinders the top cylinder runs leaner than the bottom cylinder. If you haven?t decarbed the engine for a while I use Quicksilver Engine Tune to clean the engine and the retune the engine as described in the link above. As a precaution I set my mixture very slightly on the rich side. My motor has run great since following Frank?s tuning procedure.
