I have a Tach that will jump up and down at idle and sometimes it shows higher RPM's. This happen years ago and I bought a new tach but I do not suspect another tach gone bad. It is on 6p setup on the back of the tach. I do not have another tach to temporarily hook and compare to so how is the best way to check the rectifier /regulator? It is a 40hp Force on a 1998 Bass Tracker. Thank you very much.

Re: 1998 Force Tach issue

Clean the connections on the back of the tach and on the engine. That should cure your problem. Also, if you have the switch to change pole numbers, flip that around a few times. This will clean the corrosion of the contacts.

Mine did same thing, on back of tach rotate the pole selector thingy then come back to it's original spot. Mines been doing great ever since.
