I found this boat in Texas well off the beaten path and drove away with it and the trailer for $580. The engine is gone but most everything else was still there, flywheel exhaust manifolds raw water pump bell housing starter and more. The interior needs reupholstered and a new deck. The transom was the first thing i inspected and it looked good and sounds solid. It's going to be a slow project at least until i get back to work but i have plenty of wet sanding and polishing inside and out a long with removing the interior to keep me busy for a while. My plans are to put a 350 or a 383 back in it. It had a 305. The out drive is a Volvo penta sx cobra which seems to be in good shape.

38 that boat looks just like mine, but mine is on a single axle trailer. I wish it had a dual axle, it's a heavy boat. Good luck with it.

I had intended on re gel coating it because of the deep scratches in the maroon paint and i don't care for the color but as i was DA ing it i noticed color was left under the scratches so i wet sanded and it got glossy so i guess i can live with it. Lol

This trailer is in great shape and the tires were good enough to get me back to Kansas with no problems with the exception of running out of diesel. Lol I got laid off in the middle of the week and couldn't get my money back from the motel so i used my food money to fill the truck. Off the beaten path and the boat n trailer kept me from making it on one tank. Lucky for me my wife put some money in my checking account to fuel up and make it home.

This one was about 40 miles west of Denton on a narrow 2 lane windy road. I have a brother inlaw in Tennessee that boats and likes to fish. Next time i get the chance I'd like to take this boat to Cumberland lake and do some striper fishing. You guys live in some beautiful country.

getting laid off and running out of diesel in the same week sucks. The women folks are always taking care of us. Hope you find another job soon. If you need any pictures of the engine or anything just let me know. Later Bro

Thank you and yes i could use some pics to see how things fit back in there.

Cumberland lake is about 45 min from me.

I fished there in 87 with Gene Lyda and caught some 40 pounders then again in 92 my wife and i hired a guide and caught 1. Too hot and was in August. You must live close to my bro in law. Cumberland river goes right by his property. There has to be stripers in that river don't there?

Fly what engine do you have and whats your top speed? I read some reviews and most all were positive. I have a 11 year old boy and 10 year old girl that think they are ready to ski.

V-8, 250 HP, 5.7 liter, Thunderbolt ignition, four people in boat she will run 54 mph, two people in boat two-two person tubes(with two on each one) behind comes out of hole and planes out in about 20 to 25 feet. Love the boat, cut wakes great, very stable running on plane, drop the nose and it will turn on a dime.

Sounds great man i wish i had mine ready. I have the maroon sanded and buffed on one side. The under side is nice and shiny but the white below the maroon needs lightly sanded and buffed on both sides then all the white above the maroon inside and out needs sanded and buffed. It's been to hot the last couple of days to do much. 108 degrees today + i was sending out job apps any way. Do you know how the padding comes off all around on the inside of the boat? My dad still has a surger that mom used when she was alive and i'm going to see if it's strong enough to sew boat material. If it is i'm going to try redoing the interior my self using the old fabric as a pattern.

I guess while i'm at it does anyone know what the most durable fabric is for seats and padding around the in side of the boat and what my options are for replacing the carpet if i don't want carpet back in the boat?

Re: 1998 Glastron GS205 SF

What a learning experience. As bad as the scratches were they all sanded out. 400 wouldn't touch them so i went with 150 grit on a DA. That was followed up with 400 grit on an orbital sander which was followed up by weeks of wet sanding ending with 1500 grit. I bought a brand new 7'' B&D adjustable speed buffer at the pawn shop for $30 dollars and it worked great. I ended up using evercoat HD rubbing compound followed by 3M finesse it II. I did end up having to re sand a lot where i could still see scratches from the 150 but finally got the outside of the boat done. Talking about glassy. From all chalk to looking brand new.

I'm ready now to start gutting the interior and sanding and buffing the inside. The windshield has to come off and the dash on both sides. The new interior will be white and gray. I am going to try covering the dashes in gray vinyl.

Re: 1998 Glastron GS205 SF

As advertised the stringers are fiberglass over foam. That's going to save me a lot of work. I'm trying to decide on coosa board or plywood for the deck. 2 sheets of 3/4'' coosa would be more than enough and would be the last time this boat would need a deck. I'm hoping I can get all the deck out with out taking the cap off. Cross my fingers.

Re: 1998 Glastron GS205 SF

Kind of getting a head of my self. I don't have all the deck out yet but i wanted to see what the white gel coat on the inside of the boat would look like cleaned up. I tried buffing an area 3 times with the heavy duty compound but it's just not enough so i wet sanded, compounded and buffed. Of course not all this white will be exposed when i put the interior back in but what you can see will look great. I've noticed to get it glassy there are about 15 or 20 small dimples that would fit inside one dimple of orange peel that has to be sanded out to get the look that i like and theres no short cut to getting there. Sand, sand sand. These pics are one side chalky as it was and the other side sanded and buffed.
