Hello all,

A little background about me I am an Automotive tech and this is my first boat. I have been around boats so I know a little which makes me dangerous. I need to replace the starter due to it stopped working on the river. This is only my starting point.
First is there an automotive delco remy P/N I could use to get it from local parts warehouse? I understand the spark suppression built into marine starters. Just looking to do it today.
Second does anyone now if there are overheat, oil pressure shut down strategies built into this bost. I bought the boat over the winter and it has performed flawlessly until it died. When I got it back home I checked the basics again oil, fuel, sufficient electrical power, water flow through the engine all good (except the stater). When the event occurred it was getting fuel because I could smell it. A little more background the previous owner installed a remote start that works no matter what position the key is in. I plan on removing that but am still at a lose why the engine would just up and die and not restart. It runs good in my driveway today though. I got one STRUGGLING cold start out of the starter this morning and ran it up to temp and then nothing from the starter. Thanks.

11:20am pst Update the starter question is no longer a question. I found a Sierra starter locally and am on my way to pick it up.
However I still am interested in any insight into why the engine would just die and not restart. I smelled fuel when I was trying to start it. The boat was marine shop prepared for the winter and I have been through 3 tanks of fuel (Chevron) since I started boating this summer. I am removing the remote starter switch as we speak and am going to take a long look at the ignition switch and all associated wiring. Obviously helping me over the internet is not easy for even the best mechanics but I guess what I am looking for is known concerns with this boat and engine to help identify why it would die, loose spark, and not restart. 1998 Glastron Se175 3.0GS MBYMCE engine.

5:37pm pst 6.7.09 new starter works like a champ. I removed the remote start and tidied up the wiring as needed. no smoking gun for why ignition stopped working. I have ran it up to temp 3 times today with no events so maybe out to the water for some test are in order. Still interested in any insight into this boat and it's known problems.

Update 7.6.09

I believe the kill switch wire improvment and other questionable butt connected wires I replaced corrected my problem. I was finally about to get the boat on the water this weekend and enjoyed two days of use without an issue. The reason for my delay of updating is the day, 3 weeks ago, I intended to use my boat I lost a wheel bearing in route (catastrophic failure) and had to order a new axle from TI Trailers.
