Hey gang. Getting ready for a Hurricane deck boat rebuild and ran across a 1998 Johnson 115 for 1500.00 at a boat shop. It is a VRO and have heard and read alot of different opinions on this system. My question is two fold: How many variations of the 115 is there ie.SPL and VRO. Mine doesn't have any Decals on the motor so i was trying to figure out what modle it is. Secondly, should I disconnect the VRO system and can you run the mixed oil thru a fuel filter. I am assuming yes on the filter.
Thanks in advance for any help. Also looking for a Binnacle for this rebuild.

post the model number...it is on a tag on the stern bracket( under the cover on the "neck" of the motor)

I think they might have still been making 115 crossflows and 112 specials as well as the ocean runner 115.

the special probably wont have the VRO system.

Re: 1998 Johnson 115

long shaft is 20", XL shaft is 25".....wether it fits the deck boat depends on what the deck boat designed for... probably a 20" shaft is my guess...the 25" shaft motors are usually for offshore boats.
