1998 johnson 150 oceanrunner reg/rect

Tach is working normally but voltage is running high (17.5 - 18 V) when warmed up and cruising 4K rpm. I am cleaning both battery terminals and motor ground tonite, but what test can I do when cold to determine if regulator is good or not? If it turns up bad, anyone have a link for getting p/n and reasonably priced parts quickly (leaving for vacation on Friday). Can regulator fail but rectifier still be good? Thanks

Seems a bit high. Why don't you charge the batteries before you take off?<br /><br />Marine deep cycle batteries won't usually run that high but sealed ones like automotive batteries will.

Was at 14.75V day before. Batteries are charged and are marine dual purpose oversized batteries. Switching to both and turning on every light and accessory did not bring it down. Obvious something happened and trying to find out what. Cleaning and tightening all connections did not help. Unable to operate at cruise and troubleshoot at the same time. Any suggestions other than replace a pricy reg/rect??????

Sorry, should of posted fix. My problem was the voltage gage went south. Meter verified 13.5V at idle and 14.7V when cruisin'. New gage should be in today. Good Luck

just FYI, the best price and availability I found is on BoatFix.com. Significantly cheaper than all shops and other online stores.
