1998 Johnson 50SPL J50TSLECC - Shift Linkage disconnect for changing water pump

I'm just trying to confirm that this is the bolt I need to remove to disconnect the shift linkage and facilitate the removal the lower unit. I'm somewhat confused about how upon re-installation it's going to realign and go back in through the rubber grommet should I succeed at pulling it out. Doesn't look quite right... Will the shift rod somehow magically find its way through - even though it has the bend in it?

So the short answer is yes, that is the bolt to remove... Unit slides right out without complication.
Impeller is stamped 9/97... Would this imply that it's the original - or are old OEM parts shipped with that date?
