1998 Johnson 90 SPL- 2 Cly's @ idle?

J90TSLECM 1998

My 90HP Johnson is acting up. @ idle is strugles to run but does. Sounds weak and lots of shake to her.

@ idle if I pull off the #1 and #3 plug wire the motor dies.

@ idle if I pull of the #2 or #4 plug wire there is no change.

All cyls have spark coming from the coil.

Is the powerpack done or what? Why would the coils still be throwing spark if it was?

Have you checked compression? Thinking maybe a blown head gasket between #'s 2 and 4.

How are you checking your spark ? If your checking it with the spark plugs it means nothing. It should jump a 7/16 " open air gap on a spark tester.

compresion is all good right @115ish on all 4

I just say spark as I held the boot off the plug. The spark was there but I dont know how strong. I have extra coils but didnt try because I thought it was strange to loose 2 over winter storage.

also....went through carbs.... found no issues....re set float drops to spec.

Did you also set the levels ?? You have to set both level and drop.

Yes float levels set.

UPDATE: engine running perfectly......It seemed to be a fuel issue that finally cleared. Shes a runner again. Now if you pull plugs she drops RPM's . She running on all 4's again guys. Thanks for the feedback.
