1998 Merc occasional loss of power

This motor runs great except in rough water. In rough water I loose power and engine goes to idle or just above, will not plain. Other times runs fine even in rough water. I have replaced fuel filter. Even tried to run off spare tank. Same problem. Last time out in rough water engine dropped to 4000 rpm but did not fall all the way. I can run at idle for a short time and regain full power sometimes. Please any sugestions.

Sorry this motor is a 115 if that helps

Any luck with your problem so far? Sounds like you may have a fuel delivery problem. Maybe a fuel pump or filter.

Ok I checked spark it was good across the board. Checked compression good so I gave up and tore off all my carbs I found junk in three of them. I cleaned them and took it back out and it ran fine but I have not put it in rough water again yet. This weekend will tell all. One thing I noticed is two of my plugs were wet and two were dry. I also replaced the filters but maybe the trash came from before I had the boat.
