I am looking at the possibility of purchasing a 1998 225hp engine. Some people in the local fishing community I live in call Mercurys "boat anchors". In the early 90s, a colleague of mine at the time who worked on boats a great deal said that Mercurys were "better made" than Johnson/Evinrude, at least at the time. Another current colleague told me that late model Johnson's weren't any good (no opinion on Mercs). I know this is subjective, but would any of you weigh in with your opinions? I appreciate it.
